Most people think that all chiropractors are alike. Perhaps some are better than others, and perhaps some have more experience than others—but, all things considered, a chiropractor is a chiropractor. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

People often assume that chiropractors only work on the spine, doing spinal manipulations. There is a type of chiropractic doctor that focuses only on performing vertebral adjustments—called a straight chiropractor—however, people are incorrect to believe that this is the most common type of chiropractic care.

There is another type of chiropractic care—mixing chiropractic—that is actually the most common. Mixing chiropractors make up the largest number of all of the chiropractic doctors today.

What is a Mixing Chiropractor?

A mixing chiropractor does much more than vertebral adjustments. These chiropractors do perform spinal adjustments and manipulations, of course; however, they also involve other forms of treatment in a patient’s care.

Mixing chiropractic doctors, unlike straight chiropractic doctors, use a great deal of diagnostic tools through which to determine the cause of a patient’s pain problem. These chiropractors use test results from general practitioners and other mainstream doctors in forming a diagnosis. They also use x-rays. Mixing chiropractors believe that the more information they have, the better and more accurate their diagnosis will be.

These chiropractic doctors also “mix” other types of treatment in with methods of chiropractic treatment when deemed necessary for the patient. Acupuncture, electrotherapy (such as TENS units), and physical therapy are commonly used by many mixing chiropractors.

Benefits of Seeing a Mixing Chiropractor

Mixing chiropractors typically work closely with medical clinics, hospitals, and other doctors. This means that treatment from a mixing chiropractor is not an isolated form of therapy. Instead, it can fit in as part of a larger medical treatment plan.

Also, mixing chiropractic doctors are so careful in determining a diagnosis. They do not simply use their own assessment of the patient through which to decide a course of action; rather, they use that information in conjunction with all of the other information that is at their disposal. This means that a patient is more likely to get an accurate diagnosis—and, therefore, an appropriate treatment.

Find a Mixing Chiropractor

Locating a mixing chiropractor isn’t difficult. Since these chiropractors are the most widespread among all chiropractors, it should be rather simple. Ask your general doctor for a referral, or do an Internet search. In either case, however, check for references and experience before selecting a specific chiropractor.
