Chronic Back Pain Treatment
Statistics show that about nine out of every 10 people will experience back pain at some point in their lives. Only five per cent of these people go on to develop chronic back pain; that is, back pain which lasts at least six months or longer. Chronic back pain causes people to miss out on work, family activities…everyday life. Luckily, there is a chronic back pain treatment that often works.
Chiropractic Care
Chiropractors see patients every day who are suffering from chronic back pain. These doctors have developed a variety of techniques through which they can help chronic back pain sufferers. However, before they will help you, they try to get as much detailed information about your pain problem as possible.
Most chiropractors will want information from all of your other doctors—your regular doctor as well as any specialists you have seen regarding your back issue. Bring along copies of x-rays, MRI’s, CAT scans, and bone density tests you may have already had done. Any physical therapy reports or other reports should be brought along as well. Of course, your chiropractor will still ask you a lot of detailed questions about your chronic back problem; however, the more information he has at his disposal, the better chronic back pain treatment he will be able to provide.
Chiropractic Chronic Back Pain Treatment
After getting a very thorough history from you, your chiropractor will put all of the information together. He will then form a chronic back pain treatment plan that is tailored to your specific problem.
Your plan will likely include some forms of spinal manipulation (also called spinal adjustment). These are done with you lying on the chiropractor table. The doctor will direct a thrust of gentle force at a very specific area of your spine as a method of putting your spine back into alignment. When a person’s spine is not in correct alignment, this can cause great pain. So, your chiropractor will want to help you keep your spine aligned.
Your chronic back pain treatment plan will also likely include some type of exercise plan for you to complete at home or at a gym. If it is a gym, it will be under direct supervision from an experienced physical therapist. In either case, strengthening exercises will help with your chronic pain.
Other parts of your chronic back pain treatment plan may include electronic stimulation, massage therapy, hydrotherapy, acupuncture, and more.
