Back Pain Causes Treated Through Chiropractic Care
Back pain is one of the most common complaints that bring people in to see a doctor—in fact, nearly nine out of every 10 adults will experience some type of back pain at some point during their lifetimes. Most will find that their back pain gets better—even without treatment—within a few weeks or so. However, this isn’t the case for some people. About five per cent of people end up with diagnoses of chronic pain; that is, pain that will last several months or longer.
There are many back pain causes. Some are more common than others, and some are more serious than others. Many of the common causes of back pain—whether or not they are diagnosed as chronic or not—can often be successfully treated through chiropractic treatments.
Before Pursuing Chiropractic Treatment
It is always best to check with your general practitioner before going to a chiropractor. Any chiropractor will tell you this. Why do you need to do this? Well, there are certain situations in which different treatment options might be necessary. For instance, if a person is experiencing lower back pain that is accompanied by loss of bladder control or extreme muscle weakness, this could indicate an internal problem—not one that could be helped with chiropractic care. Visiting a regular doctor before heading to a chiropractor will determine this…and no chiropractors want to treat a person whom they cannot help.
Be aware, however, that some doctors are wary of chiropractic treatment, unaware of the benefits it can bring. Don’t lose your resolve to get back pain relief from a chiropractic doctor simply because of an uninformed doctor.
Causes of Back Pain Chiropractors Can Treat
Chiropractors are often able to help patients who are suffering from many different causes of back pain.
- Muscle strains: People often get muscle strains when they twist unexpectedly or when they pull something heavy. Spinal manipulations through chiropractic care can help.
- Injuries: Chiropractors often travel with sports teams in order to help prevent and treat back pain problems.
- Arthritis: By manipulating the joints, chiropractors can help increase the mobility of people with arthritis back pain.
- Spinal stenosis: This back pain cause is a narrowing of the spinal canal. Chiropractors can help relieve the pain through spinal adjustments.
- Bulging, ruptured, and herniated disks: Normal wear and tear or injuries can trigger these; chiropractic treatments can help these causes of back pain.
