If something is broken, we fix it—that’s how our society thinks.  We do that with nearly everything, and we apply that theory to our health as well.  If something about our health isn’t quite right, we want it to be fixed.  Often, this can be done.  For example, if someone gets a headache, she can take some medicine, and the headache will usually go away.  Or, if a person falls and fractures his arm, he can get a cast.  After time, it will heal, and it is fixed.

However, our health cannot always be so easily fixed.  There are a lot of health conditions that do not have actual cures.  Back pain is one of these—there are no real back pain cures.  There are, though, many treatment options that can help to treat the pain—treatments which many people may think of as back pain cures since they effectively deal with the pain.

Effective Back Pain Treatments

Arguably the most effective treatments for back pain would be spinal adjustments from a chiropractic doctor.  These come as close to a back pain cure as possible because they do—at least for a time, for many patients—make the back pain go away.  Spinal adjustments, also called manipulations, are done in order to realign the spine.  When the vertebrae in the spine are out of line, which can cause back pain. Having a chiropractor perform a spinal manipulation, will feel like a back pain cure—although the pain may return for some patients, requiring further chiropractic treatments.

Some people would say that surgery is one of the most effective back pain cures.  In the right patients, it can be.  Spinal surgery is very much overused—many patients end up getting spinal surgery who really do not benefit from the procedure.  However, surgery can be a good back pain cure for patients who have nerve root compressions (pinched nerves) due to spinal stenosis or due to disk herniation.

No Back Pain Cure?  What do I do now?

Just because there is no specific back pain cure doesn’t mean that you will be in pain forever.  About 90 per cent of back pain sufferers find that they are completely rid of their back pain within seven to 10 weeks—regardless of the type of treatment they receive.

However, you can manage your pain.  Many patients visit chiropractors for assistance with this, though you can also choose to visit your regular doctor.
